Leopard Man, from the series 'Leakage', 2011/2013

In 2011, Anna Orlowska created the ‘Przeciek’ cycle of works. It became her graduation project, defended that year. Just a year later, ‘Przeciek’ was presented within the framework of the Fotofestiwal Lodz. In all photographs from that series Orlowska refers to Swedish director Roy Anderson’s works. Indeed, the frames look as if they have been taken out of a B-thriller in which there are signs of impending doom. In the Czlowiek-leopard (English: Man-Leopard) work, we can see a man wearing leopard print leggings, in an austere bathroom. He is shaving his legs, which seems absurd, not only because that activity is culturally ascribed to women but also because his clothes make it impossible. The man looks absentminded and appears to be acting automatically, not being fully aware of his situation. The photographs in the ‘Przeciek’ series are characterized by perfect composition but they do not form a consistent story. Each of them is the artist’s separate, independent, private vision, or sometimes a dream, or a gleam of memory. The artist herself describes them as follows: 'the works were sometimes like gymnastics, stretching, an attempt at various constructions, how much can be built, a fascination with the very possibility of staging, with the richness of the means, the possibility of visualizing various images, moods. I was thinking more in a film-like way, I was thinking about a stage with a particular density, atmosphere, a hero, and I wanted to exert an influence in that way.' (Chodzi o obraz. - In addition to the hammer price, the successful bidder agrees to pay us a buyer's premium on the hammer price of each lot sold. On all lots we charge 18 % of the hammer price.
- To this lot we apply 'artist's resale right' ('droit de suite') fee. Royalties are calculated using a sliding scale of percentages of the hammer price.
