Ewa Partum is a pioneer of feminist art in Poland. From the very beginning, the foundation of her multimedial artistic activity was a deep dedication to poetic questions on the one hand, and on the other - a non-conformist attitude. Even the artist’s diploma work raised no small commotion: Partum presented Tadeusz Kantor’s works from the 'Parapluie emballage' series wrapped in white sheets for her diploma. Partum’s poetry was also not text on a sheet of paper as is generally construed: the artist proposed the concept of active poetry, in which action by one's own body is poetic. Partum has made her body the principal tool for artistic work and simultaneously a vehicle for expressing ponderable social ideas.
